NSW Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Training

Accredited through SafeWork NSW, the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) course has been developed for health and safety representatives to provide HSRs with the skills necessary to fulfil the role of a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) in NSW.

 

We offer the Initial 5-day course for new HSRs or the 1-day refresher course, face-to-face, online and in-house course formats.

Legislation

Work Health and Safety Act 2011, section 72 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017, clause 21 provides entitlements for Health and Safety Representatives to attend SafeWork NSW approved training courses.

Who should attend

Individuals who are elected to the role of, or wish to be, a health and safety representative. The course is also suited to those who want to understand the legislation, consultation process and the role of HSRs.

  • The WHS legislative framework and key terminology

  • Legislative obligations and duties

  • The role of SafeWork NSW

  • The role of HSR in the workplace

  • Conducting WHS consultation in the workplace

  • Role of HSRs and committees including entitlements and protections

  • Requirements of a safety management system

  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Using consultation to resolve WHS issues

  • Practical exercises

  • Incident notification and investigation

  • Issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and cease work orders

 

Evidence of Identity (EOI)

Evidence of identity must be provided on day 1 of the course that includes full name, photo and signature. A drivers' licence or passport is a valid form of identity. If enrolling in the 1-day refresher course, evidence of previous course completion plus EOI is required before commencement of the course.

Credential issued

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance within 10 working days of completing the course.

Course delivery

This course is delivered both online via Zoom and face-to-face through classroom-based training, desktop scenarios, and practical exercises.
