About the course

This course describes the skills and knowledge required  to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It applies to all persons who  may be required to provide CPR, in a workplace or  community setting.

  • Nationally Recognised Training
  • Online pre-work on elearning platform (1 hour)
  • 2-hours classroom / face-to-face

Course Content 

This course provides the skills and knowledge to  be able to handle cardiac emergency situations.

Topics Include:

  • Introduction to first aid principles 
  • Assessing a cardiac emergency situation 
  • Airway and breathing management 
  • Performing chest compressions 
  • Administering rescue breaths 
  • Infection control procedures 
  • Resuscitation techniques 
  • Using a defibrillator (AED) 
  • AED maintenance

Entry Requirements 

There are no prerequisite units. Participants will need the ability to meet the physical  demands of providing resuscitation. Participants will also  need oral communication skills to make an accurate  verbal report to emergency services and workplace  supervisor. Prior to the start of face-to-face practical  training, there may be a short knowledge quiz to check  language, literacy and numeracy skills, as required.

Assessment Methods 

Progressive assessment throughout the course,  including demonstration of practical skills and written  and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge.  Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated  on the floor.

Award Issued 

A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment  will be issued to all successful participants issued by LivCor (RTO 3586).
